Jobcentre Plus has come out with a new online service called Universal Jobmatch which is managed by the UK’s Department for Work and Pensions. The service lists thousands of jobs on a weekly basis and they are searchable by the use of the new search feature. All jobseekers need to do is enter preferred job title, location or skills and they will get results related to their search parameters. Jobs may also be filtered using such parameters like age, employment type, working hours etc. and this is by way of the advanced search features. Results of the job searches may be saved so they can be viewed later on. Other features of the service include managing email alerts and being able to bookmark jobs. This online job search feature was designed to be versatile and can be used even to look for non-paying volunteer work. This service is provided free from the government.
The United Kingdom government came up with the DirectGov website which is part of their public service offerings. This was their way to deliver information and other kinds of advice to its residents. People who live in Wales and in England can gain access to the site and everything it has to offer for free and they never need to visit more than one platform. DirectGov provides interested citizens with all sorts of information pertaining to money and tax benefits, income support, travel and transportation services, and motoring, just to name a few. The site was launched in 2004 and received millions of visits a month from unique users.
How to Access and Use the Directgov Plus Universal Jobmatch
To access this portal, you must have a computer that is connected to the Internet. Below are the steps to follow to get started.
Check the DirectGov job search site which can be found here https://www.gov.uk/jobsearch
For a quick job search, enter an SOC code, job title, or location for the job you want. Look for the “search” button and click.
For a more thorough search, enter type of employment you are looking for, age required for vacancy, or working hours preferred.
At the left side, look for the “register” link to save searches.
Log in to MySearches/Email Alerts.
