Ever since social media connected the world, it has become easy to build meaningful relationships with people from all over the world. And Twitter is one of the biggest (330 million monthly users) and easiest to use. Here’s how you can get in on the action.
Set-Up a Twitter Account
Setting up an account on Twitter is as easy as… well, I don’t know anything easier – that’s just how easy it is.
1. Go to Twitter.com
2. Click on “Sign Up for Twitter”
3. Enter your details – name, email address, and password
4. Create a username.
5. Decide whether you always want to be “signed in” on Twitter on the computer you are using.
6. Create your account.
7. Fill in the form requesting additional details.
8. Verify your account using the link sent to your email account or phone number you provided.
9. Select topics of interest.
10. Follow some accounts.
Optimize Your Twitter Account
Once you’ve set up your Twitter account, you have to optimize it, meaning you have to make it:
- As attractive as possible
- Very clear who you are
- What you are all about
That being said, let’s optimize your Twitter account, shall we? Here are a few tips.
1. Customize Your Header
Prospective followers won’t take you seriously if you leave your header blank. Your header is the first thing people see on your profile. The least you should do is find a nice picture and upload it to your header. The best you can do is create a custom header picture that reflects your brand. Yes, even as an individual, you are a brand.
2. Optimize Your Bio
Your bio should tell people who you are and why they should follow you. This is an important part of your twitter profile because, after the header, it’s the next thing they see. It may seem tricky at first, seeing as you only have 160 characters to tell your story but it is very doable. Remember, you’re not telling your life story.
- In nut-shell who are you? What do you do or stand for?
- Use keywords so people easily find you.
- Add social proof. Tag your employer’s Twitter account or website, or include an achievement.
- Be real. Sarcasm and humor are a good (and inviting) way of showing your humanity.
Tips for Gaining Twitter Followers -Fast
Gaining Twitter followers takes a bit of work but it’s definitely is fun. Here are a few growth hacks.
1. The Law of Reciprocity
Simply put, if you want to be followed, follow others as well. Follow accounts that you share something in common with, don’t be a spammer.
2. Attract Attention
How do you do this? By liking or retweeting the tweets of those you follow. Human beings have an inert tendency to want to reciprocate. When you follow and retweet, they will do the same.
3. Hook Them
When you attract other people’s attention, they will usually check out your profile. You need a hook (or 3) to cause them to follow you back. Your first 2 hooks are your header and bio. Your next big hook is a pinned tweet. Your pinned tweet should elicit an emotion out of your prospective followers. It could be a quote, an original tweet or better still, a quote or original tweet with a picture.
4. Share Great Information
Twitter is a great place for people to get news or information. When you share relevant and helpful information, people will follow you – fast. Especially if you share information from influencers and tag them in your tweet. If all goes well, the influencer and some of their followers will follow you back.
5. Harness the Power of the Hashtag
The hashtag, properly used, is a great tool for growth on Twitter. It helps people discover you more easily, thus gaining you more followers.
6. Twitter Trending Topics
Do a Twitter search for topics that are trending on twitter and join the conversation. As you share your nuggets of wisdom, people will notice you and follow you.
Becoming a Boss on Twitter
Now that you have laid the groundwork, it’s time to become a boss (influencer). There are many ways of doing this but I’ll share 3 that will set you up.
1. Establish Your Credibility.
Do this by creating a professional looking profile and being consistent in tweeting.
2. Understand Your Follower’s Needs
Knowing your audience is critical to meeting their needs. Your tweets must:
- Solve a problem
If you can do that, you will well be on your way to being an influencer.
3. Respond to Replies and Mentions
Being a Twitter influencer is more of serving the people who follow you than about serving your own interests. Let this show by responding to replies, mentions, and retweets, even if it means using automation.
