Grants.gov was established to keep one aim in mind and that of providing a central point for all the grants available and making it faster, convenient and cost-effective solution for grant applicants to apply for grants and communicate easily with the grants community.
The website provides a large database of grants which are at one place making searching for a grant easier. It just requires one simple and secure login. It saves costs by eliminating paper based grant application and saves time as well. Everything is done electronically and via downloadable forms. The grants themselves undergo a Five-Step validation and registration process to ensure that they are not bogus and are conducted in a secure environment.
Grants.gov program management office was set up in 2002. It is managed by the Department of Health and Human Services. This website is an electronic-government initiative established under the President’s Agenda to help speed up the process of acquiring grants and getting more information regarding the grants available. This now forms a centralized location for people seeking and applying for a federal grant.
There are about 1000 grant programs and entails grant applications for about 26 federal agencies.
