Scottrade is an American based discount and retail brokerage firm with the headquarters of the privately owned firm are in Town and County in Missouri. This is a firm that was started back in 1980 by Rodger Riney. Rodger together with a partner opened the first office in Arizona. At that time the firm operated as Scottrade securities. In 1981, Rodger decided to go back to St. Louis to open another branch. Rodger and his partner had a conflict on how the business was to be operated. The conflict caused the partnership to end and they made it official in 1985. After the split, Rodger kept the name of Scottrade Securities. Rodger decided to use new strategies to attract customers like he lowered the commission so that many people would buy into the company. The strategy was so successful that by 1991, the firm had 15 branches around the United States.
Due to the increase in the number of customers, Rodger decided to launch a website so as to provide online quotes to the customers. So in 1996, the Scottrade website was launched. The success of the website triggered the change of the firm’s name to Scottrade in 2000. In 2003, the firm decided to launch a Chinese trading site to carter to the needs of their China based customers. In the years that followed, Scottrade was successful opening approximately 500 branch offices around the United States.
In 2006, Scottrade entered in to a partnership with St. Louis Blues NHL team. Due to the partnership, Scottrade purchased the naming rights of the arena in St. Louis. The name of the arena was later changed to Scottrade Center.
In 2013, the firm decided to cease the operations of the Scottrade Hong Kong. The customers who used this firm were given two options; the customers were to transfer to another firm at no cost. The second option was for them to wait for the Scottrade US to liquidate the accounts and then refund them.
